Research Abstract
One major goal of Dr. Gollapudi’s work is to devise and develop safe and effective immunotherapeutic modalities for the treatment of neoplasms that are difficult to cure by conventional chemotherapy. Dr. Gollapudi is researching: 1) mechanisms responsible for multidrug resistance by tumor cells and its reversal by novel chemical agents and biological response modifiers (BRM); the influence of BRM’s on tumor cells at the level of cell membrane, cytoplasm, drug resistance gene expression and cellular pharmacology, 2) the effect of environmental toxins on HIV-1 activation. To this end, he is studying the effect of these toxins on cytokine genes and host transcriptional factors. 3) the molecular and cellular bases of differential HIV-1 replication between cord blood and adult blood T cells.
